This is a common problem that occurs due to the thinness of the skin under the eyes. The skin is usually a good indicator of the health of the body in general and conditions like sickness, fatigue, and stress can actually be noticed in a person by the presence of bags under the eyes.

The best way to deal with this problem is to treat the underlying causes and to indulge in some skin care.

The first thing that you need to do is to start getting some sleep. Sleep is the period during which your body heals itself. There is also much benefit in sleep because it is during your sleep that a substance called melatonin is released. Melatonin is one of the body’s antioxidants that are very powerful.

Antioxidants are chemicals that have the ability to react with free radicals that are basically rogue chemicals in the body that bind to DNA and destroy it. By having a healthy intake of antioxidants, you will be able to allow the body to heal itself trough its natural processes and limit the damage caused by free radicals.

Other treatments include moisturizing the skin under the eye but first you need remove the dead skin in the area and hydrate your body – to eliminate dehydration as a possible cause. Removing dead skin requires the use of salicylic acid or lemon juice. The underlying mechanism at work here is the use of an acid medium to break down the proteins that bind dead skin together. The next time you wash use the salicylic acid or rub some lemon juice from a freshly squeezed lemon over the area and wash off.

Massaging and moisturizing are the next steps. Moisturize your skin by applying a lotion. One excellent alternative is to apply Aloe Vera under your eyes, as this can lock in the moisture. Massaging the skin is also very important as it improves the circulation beneath the skin. This will give the skin a normal healthy appearance, as well as remove accumulated toxins from the surface of the skin.

Another useful trick is to dip a cucumber in some lemon juice and apply it over the eyes and let it sit there for sometime. This use of lemon juice is as natural bleach. Ideally, a natural bleach solution should include the use of onion juice but this might just end up irritating your eyes.
